The low messy bun sits at the nape instead of the crown, which makes it feel a little more polished while still relaxed. It is my go-to when I want hair off my neck but do not want a tight chignon.
How to place a low messy bun
Tilt your head forward slightly and gather hair at the nape—not lower than the occipital bone or the bun will sit too low and fall forward. Use a soft elastic, twist loosely, and wrap. Leave ends out for texture.
- Leave face-framing pieces out before you gather if you want a softer look.
- Pin at the base first, then one pin on each side of the bun.
- Tug gently on the twist perimeter for fullness before you set with spray.
